On-the-ground help

Also available (compact) — Social Visits, process serving, pet visits & companionship

Side services: companionship / Social Visits (non-clinical, no personal care, adults 18+, we never drive passengers), Virginia process serving, and pet visits (where offered). Same photo-proof and cashless rules.

Disruptions and force majeure

Events outside our reasonable control can affect a job: traffic, accidents, vehicle breakdown, severe weather (snow, ice, storms), flood, earthquake, power or internet outages, illness, death, government orders or emergencies. When this happens we may reschedule or cancel without penalty: you pay no cancellation fee, we refund any unperformed portion you paid for , and we have no further liability. If we end up more than 20 minutes late, there's no fee either. Full policy.

Prohibited items and requests

We can't help with: alcohol, tobacco, vapes, cannabis, weapons, fireworks, fuel or propane; cash, gift cards, money orders, crypto, gold or paying bills; anonymous deliveries or deliveries to someone who has a protective order or doesn't want contact; following, watching, photographing or locating people; driving or carrying passengers; childcare or picking up children; personal care; cooking or serving; moving, hauling or heavy lifting; repairs outside licensed trades, locksmithing, towing; notary, legal, tax, immigration, medical or financial advice; anything on airport property (for now); orders from or for people in sanctioned countries. The request form will tell you if something can't be done.

Gifts

You can send a gift to another person: tick "This is a gift for another person" on the request form. Purchases are at cost with receipts, and you get photo proof of the delivery. We don't buy gift cards or deliver anonymously, and anyone can ask us to stop deliveries through our Do-Not-Deliver list.

Privacy

We use your details only to quote, do and prove your job. Photos are of the task, items, receipts and drop-off — we don't follow, watch or photograph people. Never send card numbers or passwords; payment is only through a secure link. When you sign and send a request on this site, a copy is stored securely with Wix (our website host) so we can manage your job; only NearProx can read it. Job tracking shows only your job ID, status and any note from us.

ID verification

For jobs involving your home or keys, documents, DMV or power of attorney, process serving, Your Person, or permits and licensed trades, we verify your identity before work starts through Stripe Identity (a photo of your ID plus a live selfie). Stripe stores your ID images and selfie; NearProx never receives them — we only see whether the check passed. Details.

Age

Customers must be 18 or older. Runners in Virginia must be 21 or older.

Senior protection

Social Visits (Tea Hour) are company only — no personal care (bathing, dressing, medication). We never handle cash or pay bills and don't give financial advice. If nobody answers at a Social Visit, there's no fee and we start a welfare check.

Do-Not-Deliver list

Don't want deliveries from us? Send us your name, ZIP, street address and mobile phone below, or email care@nearprox.com. We will refuse any delivery to you — no reason needed. This does not cover lawful service of court papers in Virginia.

FAQ

FAQ

Do you drive people?

No. We never drive or carry passengers — including when we take your car to service.

Can you buy alcohol or cigarettes?

No. We don't handle alcohol, tobacco, vapes, cannabis, weapons, fireworks, fuel or propane.

Can I send a gift?

Yes — tick "This is a gift for another person" on the request form. Purchases are at cost with receipts. We don't buy gift cards.

What happens after I send a request?

You get a confirmation number right away. Within 30 minutes during service hours (8 AM–9 PM ET) we email a firm price and secure payment link (or a question) — accept, ask or decline on your tracking page.

How do I pay?

Through a secure link once you've confirmed the price. No cash, ever. Nothing is booked or charged until then.

What if you're late?

If we're more than 20 minutes late, there's no cancellation fee.

Why do you ask me to verify my ID?

For sensitive jobs — home access and keys, documents and DMV, process serving, Your Person, and permits or licensed trades — we confirm who you are through Stripe Identity before work starts. Stripe keeps your ID images and selfie; we never receive them.

Who does the work?

The founder or a vetted runner. Licensed trade work is done by Capital Global Explorer, Inc.

Do you serve DC and Maryland?

Yes. We serve Northern Virginia, Washington, DC and nearby Maryland (Montgomery and Prince George's Counties near DC). Some services stay Virginia only (for example DMV title and registration, process serving and plumbing). Use the ZIP checker to see what's available where.

I live out of state or abroad — can you still help in Northern Virginia?

Yes. That's a core use of NearProx: we're your person on the ground when you can't be here. Coordinate by text or email for document courier and agency drops, Virginia DMV title and registration under a VSA 70 power of attorney, Home Watch and property check-ins with photos, contractor and permit runs with written authorization, errands and deliveries, and the Arrival Package (embassy runs are coming soon). You get photo proof and pay through a secure link. We don't give legal advice or sign on anyone's behalf. See Out of town.

What if my job isn't on the list?

Tap Request help and describe it. We do anything lawful that either needs no license or falls within licenses we hold (Capital Global Explorer, Inc.: remodeling/home improvement, electrical and plumbing within jurisdiction). Tasks that require a license we don't hold — for example passenger transport, medical or personal care, notary, legal or immigration advice, or security services — are declined or referred to a licensed professional. Where we file permits online

We prepare and submit applications, upload documents, schedule inspections and track status on these official portals. County fees are at cost. Trade permits that require a licensed contractor or master tradesman are filed by Capital Global Explorer, Inc. under its own licenses; homeowner permits are filed under your limited authorization. In DC and Montgomery County, trade permits (electrical, plumbing, gas, mechanical) must be pulled by a locally licensed master — we only file those where we hold the required license.

  • Fairfax County — PLUS: residential building, addition/alteration, demolition, electrical, plumbing, mechanical permits
  • Prince William County — ePortal: building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, gas and limited permits; inspections
  • Loudoun County — LandMARC: building and trades permits, plan uploads, inspection requests
  • Arlington County — Permit Arlington: online permit applications and tracking
  • City of Alexandria — permits
  • Washington, DC — DOB Permit Wizard, Instant Permits and Citizen Access; dumpsters in public space need a public space permit
  • Montgomery County, MD — DPS eServices / ePlans: permits, plan uploads, inspections, right-of-way (dumpster) permits

Manassas, Herndon, Vienna and Falls Church: we confirm each town's current process before filing.

Our pre-purchase walkthrough is not a licensed home inspection under Virginia home inspector rules and doesn't replace one. Insurance damage assessments are not public adjusting; we don't negotiate with insurers.
